Moms and Proms

Did the moms really go to prom? Of course we did, and the dads too. There are several reasons why we seem get away with this sort of thing.

Number one, our kittens are used to, even expect us to orchestrate these sorts of events. Number two, I dare say our kittens are not in love, just long time friends...more like cousins. Number three, Nina is respected and well known in her profession and as long as I can pose as a convincing wing-woman, we can get into just about anything. I just have to hold stuff and and tilt my head like I'm considering photographic things.

DIY Corsage

Our kittens were so generous. Really, they could have been stinkers but instead they let us run wild, making everything right down to the corsage and boutonniere.
They performed the traditional prom rituals while we watched with glee, GLEE I tell you!
Then best of all, the photographing began. Luckily, Nina had printed off a sheet of dramatic prom picture poses. Dan Barney was in charge of posing and did a find job. He was very good at it. (The image above was not on the posing sheet, the kittens made that one up themselves. No wonder we don't leave them alone!)

We didn't go to dinner with the kittens. I don't know if they were excited about that or not. We didn't want them tagging along, hovering over us all evening. So we met up with them at the dance. It was fascinating to watch. Some things don't change all that much.
We held very still while Terrel (also an amazing photographer) took the above photo. I felt like a guardian. It was all a lot of fun.
At the end of the night, sleepy Teen Kitten took my hand and said to me, "I'm so glad we finally got to go to prom together, mom." Then we laughed and laughed.

The kittens chanted while they danced around and around, like little witches casting a spell. They caught leaves and laughed. When it was time to come inside littlest kitten said what I felt, "I wished this day didn't have to end."
