Rachel's mom was so good at keeping the secret and planning the big surprise. She told Rachel that she needed to drop a CD off at my house late one night sometime after Christmas. They came into the studio to see what I was working on and there was a spotlight on one painting sitting on the easel. The little gasp, the little cry and the big hug from Rachel when she saw the painting made it the most satisfying painting ever. The funny thing was that she had recognized her cat before she recognized herself in the painting. Rachel is one cool girl with one cool mom. It was a treat to paint her portrait.
