Some of my clearest childhood memories are of family vacations. In fact, most of my early memories are of happy times with my family. I hope that my kittens remember this week spent being together as a family.
This vacation seemed different from other trips. Maybe it was because we had a whole week. There didn't seem to be any pressure to accomplish anything so we just sort of floated through it. There was sand, water, sun, craft/art supplies, books, lots of food and that was all we needed. We danced and laughed and talked into the night...or went to be early. There was sand in my bed so sleeping in my board shorts was quite alright. It felt so good to close my eyes and feel the sun on my skin. Oh my how I love the sun.
I'm glad to be home too. About seven minutes ago Dan Barney finished the conclusion to his dissertation. He sends it off in the morning to be reviewed. I have more to say about that but he wants me to read the conclusion. "right now." I wish I had my camera because he's pacing around with a sleepy, goofy grin. Whew!

Heading into the sunrise, I felt like a jack rabbit racing across the desert. There is just something about it that feels so good. It's not driving away from or driving to anything. It's the space in between.
The difference between me and the kittens is that when I say, "only three hours left" we groan for opposite reasons. I dare say that we all enjoyed singing and conversation together. That is part of what is possible when we are in that in between space. Teen Kitten and I discussed which should be a priority, saving the rain forest or emigration problems. We also talked about the teen caste system. I also got a little quiet time to just 'be' with them. Sigh...

Road Trip!

I've packed the silver spray paint, pom-poms, lot of paper, some plaster, tunes, mod-podge, beach towels and so much more. I've changed the sheets and straightened the house. I've charged the DS's, the phones and the I-pods. I think we're about ready to hit the road. We're headed south for sand, sun and a happy Thanksgiving.

For a recap of the Tree of Life show, visit that blog here.
One of the best things about NYC is visiting friends...and shopping...and eating...and the art museums, of course.
Our shoe purchases might just need to be a separate blog entry. If I write about it now I'll get all excited about my boots and I'll have to put them on and it's just too late for that sort of thing, they'd get tangled in the sheets.
This super spontaneous trip to NYC was really fun. Luckily the three of us have common interests and the same sense of humour...like monkeys in a barrel.

While I'm playing band fantasy, Dan Barney has been in Japan. He told me in an email about some of the fancy food he's been eating...something about fluff and cornflakes. I found this picture on Juan's blog. Go Dan Barney!
