Centuries ago Hellebore was thought to have magical powers because it bloomed in cold weather. It's one of the four classic poisons. The ancient Greeks associated it with demons or possession. All species of this flower are toxic. They were used to create poison tip arrows. It's hard for me right now not to go and make arrows, just because. Strangely, it is said to provide protection and a vase of hellebore brought into a room will drive away an unpleasant atmosphere and replace it with tranquility. I can't bare to bring the flowers in, they're too pretty.

They look so innocent there, all happy in the sunshine.

Helpful household hint: don't eat them.

I love Hellebores. In fact I just took a bunch of pictures of mine and need to get them on our website.

Yours are beautiful. Do you have any doubles?
