I'm finally back in the studio. I enjoyed the holiday, obviously, and my trip back east, but I'm very happy to be quietly working in the studio. I also am glad to have the house changed over from Halloween to Fall. I indulged in a few paper flowers this weekend.
My favorites were the tiny flowers that I strung under the downstairs mantle. I backed them with felt to make them a little more sturdy.
I was only going to do a garland and then I got into that state of mind where time isn't. The next thing I knew it was the middle of the night and I was putting flowers everywhere. I like them so much. I thought the upstairs fireplace needed more cool silver color so I added a bit of tin foil in with the tissue paper.
When I paint I add subtle color changes, making things warmer or cooler because it feels right. I'm doing that same thing with the paper flowers. I think it's the color challenges that keep my interest for so long.

what is it about the paper flowers? honestly, is it like some sort of thing for painters to become obsessed about - because i just made a bunch of jumbo ones last weekend and hung them in my kids rooms!!

**ps. your halloween looked fantastic.

Pam- I read in a biography about Frida that she lived her life in the same way that she painted. It was in the way she set her table and arranged her flowers and the way she dressed. I'm thinking more and more that paper flowers are like making a rome into an artwork, balancing color and than sort of thing. Le's do it together!!!!

I just noticed the awesome art on the mantle. I covet the little kershisnik drawings and the carman (?) painting with the horns...

M- thank you, that's very nice and as soon as my house overflows with puffy paper flowers, I'll be right over.
