My dad called me and said, "it's time to put the sign on the door." "What sign?" I asked. "The sign that says, not unless you are on fire."
When I was a kid and my dad had a deadline, he would say..."not unless YOU are on fire." What he meant was that if anyone called or came to the door or we had random questions or even if the HOUSE was on fire, we were not allowed to disturb him.
I have been working as many hours as I can and these paintings are finally starting to come together. I looked at my sketchbooks last night and wished that I had more time to explore this theme, The Tree of Life. I have some sketches that I think would be interesting paintings. I wanted to go and sit in my garden and paint. I also want to paint more ex votos/retablos. I am amazed at the stories I keep getting.
My dad called me again and this time when I said "hello" he said, "why are you answering the phone, you should be painting." I sort of want to do a stunt where I appear to be on fire and run into his studio and then explain that I will do anything to get his attention.
I do shut the door for a few hours a day, only I'm actually home alone during that time anyway. Next week...I might put the sign up.

What you wouldn't give for a holocaust cloak. ;)
Did you see your dad's dedication in the book? Give it a second look if you haven't already.
Back in the art school days, word on the street was to call and ask for "Bishop Christensen" and he'd always take your call.
i think that is a really funny sign...i like to tell my kids that when i'm talking on the phone, but it never works. so i can't imagine trying it while painting!
I'm sure we could rig up some kind of fire suit so you actually COULD be on fire without all the destructive after effects.
His studio window does look right down on our yard, so we could take advantage of that. ;-)
