For me,(though I didn't comment before) it's the motion in the painting and the expression on her face. It's so different from what I have seen of your work previously.
Well, as always with your work, the eyes are beautiful. So pure and almost vulnerable. It makes me want to protect them. Or BE them. It's a toss up.
The tree is very fluid looking. I like that. And I adore birds.
(Which reminds me... have you ever painted hummingbirds? We have them all the time, right on the other side of our living room windows. I think a girl surrounded by hummingbirds would be lovely).
The colors are calming, the blue and green, but not drab or flat in any way. They're still dramatic. Powerful. Confident.
So glad you asked. I think, (besides the way her skin color goes so nicely with her hair color and the dark, overlapping fauna) it is mostly her look of innocence and discovery as she seems to be forming an intimate relationship with a rouge bird. I love it

For me, it's her surroundings that make the piece so great. Very old-master'ish in concept. Though, overall, for me, it's the colors that totally make the piece. But, of course, the colors wouldn't mean much if the main subject wasn't so beautiful as well.
I must agree with a couple of the other comments in that this is one of my favorite Cassandra Barney pieces at the moment. Stunning.

I love the way she's looking at the bird. There's some kind of feeling in her eyes that is deep. I wonder what she's thinking.
This is so different from your other work - wistful is such a good word. The bird, berries and black leaves and branches are beautiful.
