This should be interesting...

If one wears an apron to cook, what does one wear to garden? I'm not really seeming myself as the garden clog type.
Today I started a new endeavour, gardening. I gardened with my dad as a kid and I liked it. Since then, like cooking, it was one of the things Dan is just better at so it fell under his list of things to take care of. This year however, while he is occupied with his dissertation, I have decided that I'd like to learn. Fun! I am willing and grateful for his tutelage so I asked him to walk me through the garden and give me a list of tasks to accomplish. My kittens and I set to work weeding this afternoon. I loved the smell of dirt and decaying vegetation. I loved hearing the sounds of the trains and the wind. I loved getting all dirty. I loved my body being engaged while my mind was free to roam. I gave Dan a list of what I wanted to plant and it was pretty funny...a bit over ambitious perhaps. Hmmm...

Welcome back to gardening! I grew up in my mother’s garden and my wife in her father’s garden. Once we were married she started getting interested in gardening. I have to admit I’m glad she did, she’s a much better gardener than I.

Will you share with us your list of what you want to plant? You've got me curious.

A side note--reading your blog makes me wish you would write books. Your writing is so enjoyable to read.

You are inspiring!! About all I have had success at in terms of gardening is tomatoes. Maybe I'll mix it up a bit this year. I love when I get a faint taste of earth when I am eating vegetables or greens.

You're wondering where to find some great gardening gear? http://blogs1.marthastewart.com/blueprint/ scroll down to a post a few days ago, from seeing you in person once (at your art signing on center street in provo), and admiring your style and work, I think you would have a sense of appreciation for those long socks with padded knees!
