Respect Yourself
Last night I read a blog entry that was written by my friend Pam. I'd link to it but I noticed that her blog is about to go private so I don't know how much she'd appreciate me sharing her life. In this blog entry, with sincerity and honesty, Pam stands up for what she is, for what she feels strongly about and what her priorities are in this chapter of her life.
I admire her. I admire people who respect themselves. I think life isn't about impressing others or creating illusions through accomplishments or anything else. You can fool some people sometimes, but you can't fool all the people all the time. I believe that. It's too bad that there are those who voluntarily imprison themselves with exactly what would give them freedom. It makes me sad. Some things that seem so hard are so easy...and are so worth it.
I want to tell Pam thank you for carrying my stroller off the trains when I was carrying a baby and a 100lb. backpack. But more importantly, being a few years ahead of you, that this is only one chapter in a long book. Your life is yours and the only person you have to answer to is yourself. I guess you already knew that and that's why I'm gushing.

cass, go ahead and link if you want, i'm not locking my blog down for a month. and i love you! and i hope you know that. you are an absolute inspiration to me. hauling strollers for you are among the best memories of my life. love ya.
Sounds like Pam knows what's going on. Sometimes I just think this life is too hard - and then something happens to remind me how glad I am to live HERE and NOW. There will always be something to test us, it's how we decide to respond that ultimately matters. Dancing around in aerobics gear with kids is one great way to let them know not to take things too seriously. You are one in a million! See ya soon.
