I have a long strip of chalky red paper hanging on the wall of my studio. I use it to write down ideas that I want to explore so that I won't forget them. On that paper this fall I wrote: IT'S TIME TO REINVENT. I suppose every artist fears becoming repetitive and stagnant.
My work has been evolving rapidly in the recent months. It's exciting to have other possibilities surface. My newest paintings have been more delicate and feminine. I'm experimenting with varnish, trying to find a finish that still looks aged but not plastic.
I'm working for a show at Ernst Collectors gallery at Cannon Beach Oregon that will be the first weekend in May. I'm titling the set of paintings, Primavera. Primavera means "spring" or"first truth." It's an appropriate title for this time of year. It's also appropriate for my life. My family is getting ready to move from Vancouver this summer, it feels like a new season, a new beginning.
