In the Studio

Before painting, should an artist warm-up? Should she do some stretches with her fingers or look at...colors? I actually have been trying something new this week. When I first get into the studio, I spend fifteen minutes drawing. I do believe that it's helping me to tune in and work more sensitively from the get-go. I have been drawing figures from old master's paintings and tomorrow I'm going to switch to drawing architectural elements.

I usually don't draw this much on an under painting (above) but in an attempt to see subtle light changes in the figure, I drew quite a bit on this one.

There are unfinished paintings all over my studio. I have been experimenting with some different ideas and am looking forward to picking a direction and then working on a cohesive body of work.

The studio has been a busy place when the kittens are home. It seems like they are all doing more amazing work now than they have ever done. I couldn't be happier. I just want to sit back and watch. The teen kitten's skills fare surpass mine at their ages. Seriously, it's heavenly. I even get an occasional visit from a nephew. Sigh...heaven!
