Cleansing Rituals

Before I start a new project, I usually need to go through the ritual of putting away everything from the last project so that I can start fresh. In a chaotic studio, my mind tends to wander.

I worked on my scrap and bookshelf this round of organization. I got rid of a lot of papers. I was at the point where I couldn't find anything because there were too many stacks of pictures from paintings, models and magazines. I kept my files small, only keeping what was useful or inspiring.

I even cleaned out my paint drawer which I haven't done for a very long time. For some reason though, every time I even look at that drawer, I end up with paint in my hands or clothes. It's really weird how that happens.

While I prepare my materials, gessoning panels etc., I am also preparing in my mind, thinking about the artworks.

Everything must be in its proper place and order when I start a bake a thon. Not nearly as cool as your studio, but I understand the urge.

I just wanted to say what an inspiration you are. I started painting 7 years ago after overcoming a belief that I had no talent. I found a wonderful teacher who showed me that I had. It has been a lifelong dream to be an artist and a writer. My friends outside the church often say, " I have never met a Mormon like you!" I am also our ward Compassionate Service Coordinator. How I love serving the families and neighbors in our ward. I hope to meet or chat with you someday. Thanks for being such a great contribution!
