Sunday, my littlest kitten and I went out to the garden to harvest crops. We picked our third, cutest little tomato. We also picked all of our peas...which was ONE PEA POD. So then we ate our tomato and we opened up our ONE pea pod and...
there weren't actually any peas in it! Sheesh. I'm so glad that my last name isn't Ingalls because if I were Caroline or Charles, my family would starve. I'd have to own the store and be Nellie's mom and that wouldn't be fun because Nellie is so insecure and mean.
One time I was asked to go on a pioneer trek and all I could think of was how I was going to sneak Diet Coke in my wagon. I was looking into buying a water bra that I could fill with Diet Coke. We moved to Canada just in time and I didn't have to go. Good thing because that bra thing might have been awkward.

So tonight, with a renewed interest in saving at least some of the crops, I put on my head lamp and went hunting. The earwigs are obviously eating well because the twelve I smashed were disturbingly large. There are also some little flies and tiny grasshoppers feasting. I set out a hollow bamboo pole, a suggestion from my friend Carla who heard that the earwigs might crawl into it during the day and then...BAM, they'll be trapped. There is beer in my garden and marble powder around the plants. I'm close to giving up on the ORGANIC part and get some poison. Seriously...

I tried organic gardening too, and it went down in flames! Well in went down with squash bugs actually. After I couldn't come close to picking all of the thousands of bugs on my plants, I walked the line of organic gardening and tried pouring alcohol on them, but they still thrived on all of my beautiful healthy plants! So now I'm all for chems!

I'm sorry! I would go after the earwigs with everything you can. Save your garden! Something is eating my zucchini, I might have to do some midnight guarding myself and find the villains. I'm so jealous that you have tomatoes ready! I have a few green ones, but nothing pickable yet. I am ready for my salsa.

Don't give up! Look how great that tomato looks. You are still cracking me up with your adventures. Love the head light.

Honestly, those trek things scare me to death! I've never been on one, but I shudder to think...

and that's kind of surprising, since some of my hobbies have had me publicly questioned as to whether I'm a "pioneer".

For heaven's sake. A pioneer? Seriously?

But I've heard they don't feed you. You hike all day, in a dress, dragging a handcart over rough ground, and then you get broth for dinner.

Not me, man. I would SO smuggle food. I don't care. I'm eating.

I'm very happy for your sweet escape :-)
