Hmmm, is the thistle a symbol of hard work because they grow in unkept areas, or is it because they are a pain in the neck to remove?

In my Christian symolism book it says thistles are symbolic for sorrow and sin. I painted a self portrait with thistles around my face, 'cause I'm a sorrowful sinner, I've also been called "hard work", so I guess either way it still conveys a truth.

Thanks everybody. I will keep posting drawing and I hope that everybody that reads this gets some sharp pencils and gets to work. Drawing is so good to do. I read that, "...(thistles) are a gift from the devil himself, a plant that means trouble and hard work." Butterflies on thistles, however, mean resurrection. Who decides this stuff?
A- add a butterfly to your painting.
