Just thinking...

In conversations, more that once in the gallery this weekend, I was asked what I'll be working on next. My reply was/is that even though I'm swimming in ideas I'd like to bring to fruition, I'm mostly finishing up some projects. I'm excited about a couple of them and then I'll be packing up and setting up studio again this fall. Once settled, I picture my upcoming work to be a little more experimental. I'm not feeling hindered by being obligated to make money or by the need to prove myself to my peers so I feel like I've got some free space to do more involved pieces. I'm not sure what that even means or if I'll even be able to stand not working for more than a few weeks but that's what I'm thinking.
In these conversations, one word kept coming up. Sincerity. It seemed like I heard it ten times... long as your artwork is sincere, it really doesn't matter what you do. I believe that to be true. There are lots of different reasons that people do artwork, some just to make money but for me, being real and genuine is not something I can detach from my work, even if it meant that I could sell more paintings. Sincerity is important to me in life all around. Be accountable for what you do and what you say. That's not always easy and I'm not responsible for making anyone else accountable but to me I feel at peace when I apply this concept in my art work as well as in my life.

You are a lovely mother & artist! I love your style & passion for art. You might be questioning who this might be & will prob. not remember me as I was only around for a summer with Ryan Mcphie. It's me Marsha if your memory goes back that far.
I was always so impressed with your family as a whole... your lovely parents, siblings and your georgeous family. My have the girls grown! They are too precious!

sincerity seems like a difficult thing to find, the absence of ego, or an ability to be present at any moment, but beyond individuality, but not loosing it either. to not offend, but to be honest, ? something beautiful

Ty...ya...I used to panic about only having half of a life left (if I even lived that long). But now I feel like we've got time...time to try to be better and impliment all of these things that we're learning.
time is something beautiful too...
and sincerity
and we're going to need time because those are big concepts to take on
I'll go read The Four Agreements Again. I just realized that that is what the first chapter is about...right?
GYB Ty!

Ty- I just realized something. This second phase of life used to give me panic attacks because I thought I didn't have everything I wanted but now I'm getting that it's not about what I want, but all of those things you just wrote.
